A licensed Physical Therapist and Orthopedic Certified Specialist, Brent is a leading authority in performing arts medicine and Pilates-evolved techniques for rehabilitation. He lectures widely at national and international symposia and consults with physical therapy companies, universities, and other educational bodies throughout the world. In addition, he owns and operates one of the nations most comprehensive Pilates conditioning and physical therapy centers which has become the model for many other Pilates studios worldwide.
Brent received his degree in Physical Therapy at the University of California, San Francisco in 1989, and his PhD in Physical Therapy at the University of Miami in 2005. He currently serves as adjunct faculty at the University of Miami, Division of Physical Therapy. His doctoral thesis explored the impact of Pilates rehabilitation on chronic low back pain using psycho-emotional wellness and quality of life measures. Brent has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1987 and he formerly served as President of its Performing Arts Special Interest Group. He is also a long time member of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS – ΑΝΑΛΥΣΗ ΜΑΘΗΜΑΤΩΝ
Rotational SportsMany sports involve rotation and repetitive movements that can result in overuse injuries. A few examples include golf, tennis, and hockey. Athletes of these sports commonly develop imbalances and injuries – the effects can range from impaired performance to a sidelined athlete.Polestar Education's Rotational Sports course teaches Pilates practitioners to incorporate Pilates exercises into the training/rehabilitation sessions of these athletes to develop greater stability, core control, and range of motion while decreasing fatigue, injuries, and biomechanical issues.Duration: 8 hours
Prerequisites: Completion of a comprehensive certification in Pilates from a Pilates Method Alliance approved school (including Polestar Pilates Studio or Polestar Pilates for Rehabilitation)
Open the Gait! (formerly Advanced Gait)
This course provides in-depth instruction on assessing and improving gait. Learn functional and dysfunctional gait mechanics and movement patterns, as well as the relationship between gait and Pilates. We will use Polestar's unique principles to facilitate qualitative analysis in gait. “Open the Gait” to improved gait patterns in yourself and future clients.Duration: 8 hours
Prerequisites: Completion of a comprehensive Pilates teacher training program from a Pilates Method Alliance approved school (such as Polestar Pilates Studio or Polestar Pilates for Rehabilitation)
Scoliosis
This eight hour course is designed to enhance practical knowledge of scoliosis from early age thru adulthood and the accompanying pathologies, limitations and co-morbidities. Each participant will learn to identify what is and is not important when assessing movement of individuals with scoliosis. The Polestar Principles and Polestar Pilates exercises will be used to aid in interventions and to improve function. Discussion will include a review of practical applications of Pilates exercises for both corrective and facilitative approaches to treating scoliosis. Polestar introduces the use of special props and small apparatus including the BAC discs for safe interventions and home exercise programs.
Raising the BarJoin Dr. Brent Anderson in discussing how you can accelerate your growth to become a proficient practitioner using the latest research supporting professional development. Becoming a skilled healer through movement can at times seem overwhelming. Brent will share how you can stay on track and enjoy the journey.
Polestar Principles
This non-apparatus course introduces current research in movement science, motor learning, bioenergetics, and communication science to instructional practice through six basic movement principles which are used throughout the Polestar Pilates curriculum. Tactile, verbal and imagery cues are integrated with the Pilates exercises. This course introduces Polestar Pilates Screening™, which includes postural evaluation and functional testing, to prepare you to properly design a plan to implement Pilates exercises for clients. This unique component significantly enhances decision-making skills as a Pilates practitioner. Health care professionals will integrate critical reasoning skills with these principles to facilitate movement assessment and intervention within the Pilates environment.Taking more than one series? This course is required only once. Remember to register for Polestar Principles first, and then the series of your choice.Duration: 2 daysPrerequisites:
* Certified fitness instructor or instructor of movement arts (e.g. Yoga, Tai Chi, practitioners of somatic movement)
* One semester of basic anatomy/physiology or equivalent
* Participation in 25 hours of group or private Pilates classes
* For Pilates for Rehabilitation Series, must be licensed or certified health care professional (e.g. MD, PT, DO, DC)
Introduction to Pilates for RehabilitationThis 3 hour workshop will focus on the history and evolution of Pilates for rehabilitation, as well as the role of the physical therapist in Pilates intervention for rehabilitation and prescription for wellness. Each of the participants will review Polestar’s six principles and the scientific foundations that support Pilates. We will discuss applications of Pilates for specific rehabilitation populations. This course will also provide a practical experience for each participant.Objective: Following this workshop participants will:1. Be familiar with the history of Joseph Pilates and its evolution in the field of rehabilitation.
2. Discuss and acquire knowledge pertaining to Polestar’s six Principles of Movement and how they affect movement education and rehabilitation.
3. Understand the appropriate Pilates prescription.
